Grading hatching eggs purpose

Remove too big or too small eggs, as they are not good for control chick quality. too small chicks will be weak, and too big eggs maybe double-yolk eggs.

Separate eggs into different sizes, and put them inside different machines. as big size egg and small size egg require different temperature in incubation.

For those eggs that will be hatched after graded, bigger or smaller egg size will not affect the chick quality A or B. But if we put bigger eggs in one machine, and smaller eggs in another machine,  more eggs get proper temperature, then at last we can get more grade A chicks.

More grades will be more useful?

If every day eggs only load to one incubator, then only three grades will be ok (remove too big and too small eggs, keep medium size eggs to be hatched)

If every day a hatchery will load to two incubators, then it can grade the eggs into four grades, (remove too big, and too small eggs, separate those hatchable eggs into two grades and each grade eggs into one incubator)

Other useful functions for egg selection system:

Besides the egg grading, light checking, and sanitation functions will also be useful.

When eggs come to hatchery, there might be some eggs have cracks in the egg shell, and which cannot be found easily by workers with naked eyes, especially when workers work fast. With light checking, the eggs will roll above light, and workers can see easily if the eggs have cracks or not.

At the same time, workers can take out the abnormal shaped eggs, sandy-shell eggs, dirty eggs, and other bad quality eggs.

All these eggs will be easy to have disease or easy to be contaminated during incubation, then either chicks cannot be hatched, or the hatched chicks will be bad quality. so that the light checking process is helpful for control chick quality.

The brushing and ultra-violet disinfection functions, can remove the manure and dust on the egg shell, and with that to reduce bacterial level inside the machines. Chick quality will also be improved with less bacteria.

Advanced egg sorting system can automatically adjusting the direction of eggs, and load eggs small end down and big end up into the egg trays. According to experiment, over 70% of the eggs that put big end down can not be hatched.So that to ensure the egg directions is very important, and advanced machines nowadays can do better than workers.

The reasons for bad quality chicks:

Nutrition or breed reasons. For example, lack of vitamin, breeder disease, deformed eggs, sandy-shell eggs, too small or too big eggs, etc.

High bacteria level. Caused by cracked eggs loaded into the incubators, or more unhatched eggs, or eggs dropped or cracked during incubation because of egg size or wrong operation.

Improper temperature or humidity or ventilation in incubation, or bad egg turning, or big-end reverse

Now with the egg grading, light checking, and disinfection method, we can greatly reduce the risks in no.1 and no.2, so that hatching performance and chick quality can be improved.

Where to put the egg sorting system, in farm or hatchery?

It will be better to put it the hatchery if the space at hatchery allows. Reasons are:Hatchery usually have eggs from different farms, so that there are more eggs here. Big capacity egg sorting system can handle many eggs, and if the system is here, it can have more work to do and can use less egg sorting systems.

During transportation of eggs from farm to hatchery, there might be some eggs damaged or cracked. So with the system at hatchery, it can sort the eggs at one time.
